Will GTA 6 Run at 60fps on Consoles?
Former Rockstar Games animator Mike York, who worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5, has cast doubt on whether GTA 6 will achieve 60 frames per second (fps) on current consoles. Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, York stated, “I don’t know if they’ll be able to pull off 60fps. I think they’re aiming for a locked 30fps, meaning it won’t dip below that.”
Could PC Be the Only 60fps Option?
York suggested that while the console versions might be locked at 30fps, the PC release could eventually allow for 60fps gameplay, depending on hardware advancements and optimization.
Why 60fps Might Be a Challenge
Rockstar’s highly detailed game worlds require significant processing power, making 60fps difficult to achieve on consoles. York speculated that even a potential PS5 Pro upgrade might not guarantee a 60fps experience unless AI upscaling or other performance-enhancing technologies are used.
